Deserts: large, arid, dry land masses with extremely low levels of precipitation and plentiful hills of sand. Wait, wait, wait. Desserts*: the sweet, decadent, indulgent, irresistible foods that typically come at the end of a meal. They come in all shapes and sizes, but there is one thing that is universal: people love them. Whether it's brownies, cakes, crepes, caramels, ice creams, or more, cultures all around the world have loved them since the beginning of time. For this edition of Taste Buds, Allen and Ian travel to Melt n Dip, the new and exciting dessert cafe in Johns Creek.

Allen and Ian ordered six items in total: Brownies Magic, Bueno ice cream, the YOLO Crepe, the Apple Cinnamon Crepe Pouch, cotton candy ice cream, and the Lotus Waffle.

First at the plate: Brownies Magic. A hefty skillet full to the brim with chocolatey, rich brownie, crowned with vanilla gelato and a drizzle of Belgian chocolate, this dessert certainly fits its name as a magical experience. Biting into the Brownies Magic felt akin to reading the Philosopher's Stone for the first time and seeing Harry Potter learn how to ride the Quidditch broom. The dichotomy of the warm, velvety brownie with the cold, creamy gelato produces a taste like no other. 9/10

Next at bat: Yolo Crepe. The crepe is a staple of Melt n Dip and is comprised of layers of batter and filling. The crepe is doughy and extremely thin, creating the impression of a dessert with dozens of cascading layers. The Yolo Crepe in particular stuffs Oreo crumble and 3 distinct types of chocolate inside its exterior: milk, white, and Belgian. It is also draped in Melt n Dip's "special cream." The Oreo taste was pervasive in each bite, and the chocolate burst in one's mouth. 8.5/10

Now, we present to you: Bueno Ice Cream. A traditional vanilla gelato with mix-ins of, you guessed it, Bueno chocolate. The flavors of Bueno are milk chocolate, a creamy hazelnut filling, and a crispy wafer layer. From the first bite, it's exactly what you'd hope for: smooth, creamy vanilla as the base, with bundles of hazelnut chocolate and crunch all combining for a fantastic flavor profile. Overall, the flavors come together to create a unique ice cream experience that transcends your traditional generic vanilla.

The Apple Cinnamon Crepe Pouch is one of Melt and Dips unique takes on a crepe; rather than being a flat sheet of dough with chocolate and other toppings inside, the pouch is like a tent of dough, encasing the chocolate with apple pie-style cinnamon apples inside. The apples are delicious with a soft yet firm texture and certainly live up to the expectation. The chocolate is also very creamy and delectable, and the dough is just the average crepe dough, solid and passable. It has all the makings of a great dessert and is very delicious, but the proportion of crepe to apple to chocolate is skewed and left us tasting more cocoa than anything else. 8/10

Next up is the cotton candy ice cream. It's a very self-explanatory item, just being cotton candy flavored ice cream, and its unremarkable taste certainly doesn't help with its notability. Its flavor was a mixture of sugar, cream, and some artificial cotton candy flavoring that left a potent aftertaste in the mouth. This was one of those desserts that doesn't leave you thinking. It's forgettable; something has to be the worst, for something else to be the best. 4/10

Saving the best for last, the final item is the Lotus Waffle. At the base, it's a traditional Belgian waffle, baked to perfection with a nice, fluffy interior that melts in the mouth and a crisp exterior that binds the dough together. On top is a sea of Lotus butter, thick like syrup, but with the unmistakable flavor of the delicious crisps. Dotting this vast ocean of gooey deliciousness are the crumbs of a Biscoff cookie, introducing a nice crunch to the buttery and fluffy concoction. And finally, the cherry on top isn't a cherry at all, it's a generous helping of vanilla ice cream that blends perfectly with the array of flavors, adding a cool wave to the warmth of the waffle. The combination of flavors in this dish makes for an absolutely unforgettable bite every single time, and it's not an exaggeration to say that the taste has stuck with Allen and Ian for days after, leaving us craving the Lotus Waffle more and more. No other rating would fit besides a perfect 10/10

Melt n Dip, while new, has clearly become one of those reliable dessert places where you know you'll get a good, solid dessert every time. There is truly something for everyone in this place, with every dessert imaginable, and while some of their selection is unremarkable, a few items stand out as some of the most divine desserts offered anywhere in Johns Creek. It's certainly worth a visit, and will most definitely leave you satisfied and stuffed.
