As students shuffle into a HOSA meeting after school, Ishaan Gupta is usually one of the first people they see. He's checking the slides, talking with officers, and greeting members as they walk through the door. By the time the meeting starts, everything seems to be running smoothly. For Gupta, that is often where he is most comfortable: working behind the scenes, bringing people together, and making sure things get done.

Over the past four years, Gupta has become a familiar presence throughout Northview High School. Whether it's through healthcare initiatives, student leadership, or simply his unwavering kindness to all, he has built a reputation as someone who is dependable, driven, and invested in the people around him.

Gupta's approach to school is more than completing assignments and earning good grades; it is a combination of curiosity and a willingness to challenge himself. Among his classes, biology stands out as a particular favorite.

"Biology has always been my favorite subject because it connects the things we learn to real-world problems," Gupta said.

His dedication to academics earned him recognition as a National Merit Semifinalist, an achievement that reflects the consistency he puts into his education. However, his academic success has not come without its challenges. Like many students, he finds ways to manage difficult coursework while balancing his extracurriculars.

"When I run into something difficult, I try to break it into smaller pieces and focus on making steady progress instead of getting overwhelmed," Gupta said.

He learns how to adapt his approach when something does not immediately come easily. Whether that means revising his study methods or adjusting his morning routine, Gupta's experiences have shaped the way he views academics, emphasizing the importance of persistence during challenging times.

Beyond his academic pursuits, Gupta has turned his interest in healthcare into opportunities to serve and lead. Through HOSA, volunteer experiences at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta and Piedmont Hospital, and work with a mental health nonprofit, Gupta has explored healthcare from multiple perspectives.

Looking ahead, Gupta hopes to pursue a career as a physician. After completing his undergraduate education and medical training, he plans to work in healthcare while continuing to explore his interests in public health and community impact.

"I'm interested in medicine because it combines my love for science with helping others and hopefully making a meaningful difference in people's lives," Gupta said.

Gupta has taken on multiple leadership roles throughout his time at Northview. He has served on class council since freshman year, which has given him an opportunity to remain involved in his community with his peers.

Ayan Ganguly, a senior at Northview, has witnessed Gupta's leadership firsthand through their time together in class council and AP Literature.

"He'll see a group and decide to take the reins. That's just his personality," Ganguly said.

Gupta has taken on the role of co-president of Spanish Honors Society, where he helps lead an organization centered heavily on Spanish language and culture. Through this position, he works alongside other members to support the organization and contribute to the Northview community.

Yet, despite his impressive array of accolades, Gupta's friends often speak first to his character before his resume.

Rishi Sharma, a senior at Northview, has been a close friend of Gupta's for years and attests to their friendship:

"Ishaan is someone you can count on. He'll always be there for you as a friend. He's also the most hardworking person I know. He's incredibly diligent with what he does, and he's persistent in doing better for his community," Sharma said.

Outside of school, Gupta enjoys spending time with friends, especially on the pickleball court. Whether it's competing at Bellmoore Park, watching the World Cup together, or spending time at Avalon, these moments with friends and family provide balance to the demands of his schedule.

"Being able to unwind after a long week of schoolwork is something that always grounds me," Gupta said.

For his friends, though, his future success is hardly surprising. The same qualities that make Gupta a leader today—curiosity, discipline, and an ability to connect with others—are the ones that have defined him throughout high school. Whether in a classroom, a clinic, or a conversation with a friend, Gupta approaches each opportunity with the same goal: leaving people better than he found them.
